What’s so great about this bait?
Our bait is a lot more sustainable. With the population of mackerel and herring getting lower and prices getting higher, we needed an alternative on the market that could use less fish and save more money. We use 75% less herring and mackerel in our bait recipe. This lets us make four pounds of bait with one pound of fish and that saves money, too.
Does it work?
Yes it does! Even though our bait is made with less herring and mackerel, the lobsters don’t know that. During a 2019 field study, the fishermen using our bait recorded just as many lobsters caught at the end of the day as the boats using traditional lobster bait.
What’s it made of?
It may look like a sausage, but our bait is still made of fish. We use a special blend of fresh, processed and dehydrated fish (herring and mackerel) and fish oil all held together with an organic casing.
Where’s the bait made?
All of our bait is made in Prince Edward Island! We have a big, green building at the Nine Mile Creek wharf that is responsible for making, storing and distributing all of the bait that we make.
How long does it last?
Our bait lasts about 4-5 days in the water. This is 2-3 days longer than traditional bait will stay fresh in traps. You don’t have to worry if you can’t make it out to check a trap, our bait will stay fresh and the lobsters still go crazy for it.
How do you use it?
Our bait is used in lobster and crab fishing. Here are some tips to get the best results out of our bait:
- DON’T cut it in half or open it up all the way
- DO Make one small cut or a couple of holes in the casing
- DO Keep it in a fine bait bag or cage
